In a significant advancement for India’s coastal security and indigenous shipbuilding prowess, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) recently commissioned the ICG Ship ‘Amulya’ in Goa. This marks the addition of the third vessel in the eight-ship Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessel series, reinforcing the government’s commitment to enhancing maritime safety and operational readiness.
The 51-meter-long vessel, designed and constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), showcases the nation’s growing capabilities in domestic ship construction, boasting over 60 percent indigenous content. This aligns with the country’s push towards self-reliance in defense, emphasized through initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India. The name ‘Amulya,’ which translates to ‘priceless,’ captures the essence of this milestone.
Powered by dual advanced 3000 KW diesel engines, the vessel is capable of reaching speeds up to 27 knots and has an operational endurance of 1,500 nautical miles. This impressive range allows for sustained operations throughout India’s vast maritime zones. Equipped with cutting-edge indigenous weapons and systems, ‘Amulya’ promises superior maneuverability, flexibility, and enhanced performance, critical factors for its intended missions.
The ICG Ship ‘Amulya’ will shoulder a variety of tasks, including maritime surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue operations, anti-smuggling initiatives, and pollution response. These responsibilities serve to further bolster the Indian Coast Guard’s operational readiness and capability.
Stationed at Paradip, Odisha, the vessel will operate under the watchful eyes of the Coast Guard’s North East region, with Commandant (JG) Anupam Singh leading a crew consisting of five officers and 34 personnel.
The commissioning ceremony was graced by Shri Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary (IC), who presided over the event, alongside senior officials from the Indian Coast Guard, various levels of government, and representatives from Goa Shipyard Limited.
The induction of the ship ‘Amulya’ marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing expansion of the Indian Coast Guard’s fleet, greatly enhancing the country’s maritime defense capabilities and commitment to safeguarding its coastal areas.
