Indian Coast Guard Inducts First Fast Patrol Vessel 'Adamya' Developed by Goa Shipyard Limited

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has officially welcomed ‘Adamya’, marking the induction of the first Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) as part of a broader initiative to enhance its fleet with eight vessels currently being developed by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL). The ceremony, held in Goa, highlights a significant advancement in the ICG’s maritime capabilities, emphasizing the importance of indigenous innovation.

‘Adamya’ introduces cutting-edge technology to the ICG fleet, being the first FPV to incorporate Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPPs) along with indigenous gear systems. These enhancements are designed to improve the vessel’s maneuverability and operational adaptability, particularly in high-stress situations such as coastal surveillance and urgent response missions.

In terms of armament and operational systems, ‘Adamya’ is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a 30mm CRN-91 gun and two 12.7mm stabilized remote-control guns that are integrated with advanced fire control systems. Additionally, the vessel is outfitted with an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), an Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), and an Automated Power Management System (APMS). The amalgamation of these systems significantly boosts the Coast Guard’s operational efficacy, especially in enforcing maritime law, executing rescue operations, and protecting India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The vessel, constructed entirely by GSL, is a testament to India’s growing capabilities in indigenous shipbuilding and aligns with the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, which aims for self-reliance in various sectors. As the fleet of FPVs expands with the delivery of all eight vessels, the ICG anticipates a notable enhancement in its rapid response abilities, facilitating more expedient actions during emergencies and improving overall maritime situational awareness.

The induction of ‘Adamya’ is not just a step forward for India’s coastal defense; it also emphasizes a strategic initiative to modernize the Coast Guard’s fleet with advanced, domestically produced platforms, reinforcing national security and maritime sovereignty.
