Indian Navy Felicitates Karwar Man for Heroically Saving Navy Officer

The Indian Navy has recognized the heroic efforts of Nagaprasad Raikar, a jeweller from Karwar, following his remarkable act of bravery on August 1, 2025. Raikar played a crucial role in rescuing Navy officer Saketh Kashyap, who had fallen onto the railway tracks and sustained serious injuries.

On that fateful day, Officer Kashyap was traveling to Mumbai when he lost his footing and fell from the train, suffering significant bleeding upon impact. As fate would have it, Raikar happened to be passing by and noticed the officer in dire condition. Without hesitation, he rushed to help, transporting Kashyap to the Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences, where he received vital medical care. Subsequently, Navy authorities ensured that Kashyap was transferred to INHS Patanjali hospital for more intensive treatment.

In acknowledgment of Raikar’s swift and selfless actions, the Navy held a formal ceremony of appreciation at Kadamba Naval Base. During this event, Raikar was honored by Officer Kashyap himself aboard the warship INS Tabar, which is commanded by Saketh Kumar. Raikar was presented with a certificate of appreciation and several commemorative items, underscoring the Navy’s gratitude for his courageous conduct.

Reflecting on the event, Raikar recounted, “When I was returning home from a friend’s place, I heard voices in Hindi near Khadwada cross railway station. I found a person on the ground, bleeding profusely. I didn’t know who he was at that moment, but I took him to the hospital and later learned that he was Naval officer Saketh Kashyap.”

Raikar further described the recognition he received from the Navy, stating, “I got a call to meet an officer at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Upon arrival, I realized that the person who contacted me was the commanding officer. It was truly humbling to be acknowledged by the Navy.”

This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the critical role that civilians can play in emergencies, showcasing the vital connection between the armed forces and the communities they serve. The Navy’s gesture reinforces the values of courage and compassion, highlighting the impact that a single act of bravery can have on saving a life.
