Security agencies in India have arrested a personnel of the Indian Navy on allegations of espionage related to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). This arrest came after intelligence inputs indicated that the individual was sharing sensitive defense-related information with contacts across the border.
The individual has been identified as Adarsh Kumar, a resident of Agra in Uttar Pradesh, who was stationed at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, Kerala. Investigators assert that he was in communication with an operative of the ISI based in Pakistan, and evidence has emerged that he was transferring funds from his bank account to this handler.
The case emerged when the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) received intelligence alerts concerning potential espionage activities involving the naval personnel. Following this intelligence, authorities implemented surveillance measures and subsequently detained Kumar for questioning.
During the investigatory process, officials reportedly uncovered that Kumar had shared photographs of warships and sensitive naval installations with contacts believed to be associated with Pakistani intelligence. These materials are thought to include images and data concerning strategically important naval assets, amplifying concerns over possible security breaches.
After the arrest, Kumar was presented before a court and has since been remanded to custody as investigations continue. Security agencies are diligently working to assess the breadth of the information shared and are exploring whether additional individuals may be part of the suspected espionage network.
In light of the ongoing investigation, authorities are reviewing communication records, financial transactions, and digital devices to uncover any further connections with foreign intelligence operatives. More information is anticipated as the inquiry unfolds.
