Indonesia Launches First Locally Built Arrowhead 140-Class Frigate KRI Balaputradewa-322

Indonesia’s naval capabilities are set to enhance significantly with the recent launch of the KRI Balaputradewa-322, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s defense industry. This vessel is notably the first Arrowhead 140-class frigate constructed entirely within Indonesia, signifying a major milestone in the country’s efforts to modernize its military fleet.

Measuring 140 meters (459 feet) in length and 19.8 meters (65 feet) in width, the KRI Balaputradewa-322 has a substantial displacement of approximately 6,000 tons at standard load, making it a formidable entity on the water. The frigate is powered by a Combined Diesel and Diesel (CODAD) propulsion system, which allows it to achieve impressive speeds of up to 28 knots, equivalent to 32 miles or 52 kilometers per hour.

The construction of the KRI Balaputradewa-322 is emblematic of Indonesia’s commitment to bolstering its maritime defense capabilities and asserts the nation’s capacity to produce advanced naval vessels domestically. This initiative aligns with broader regional security strategies and displays Indonesia’s dedication to self-reliance in defense technology.

As the Indonesian Navy continues to evolve, the introduction of the KRI Balaputradewa-322 is anticipated to enhance its operational capabilities in various naval missions, further solidifying Indonesia’s presence in regional maritime security.
