Instructions for CDS 1 2016 Online Application

Online submission of application can only be made at website www.upsconline.nic.in. Detailed instructions are available at the site. Candidate should read the instructions carefully before making any entry or selecting options because any mistake can lead to rejection of the application. Candidate should supply all the required details while filling up the online form. Dont leave mandatory field blank they are usually represented with asterisk ‘*’.

The filling of online application contains two parts.

  •   Log on to http://www.upsconline.nic.in/ to access the home page of the “ONLINE APPLICATION”.
  • Click on “Online application for various examinations of UPSC”.
  • Place the mouse over the ‘Examination’ menu. The link would display a set of two options namely “PART-I Registration” and “PART-II Registration”.
  • In Part I registration, candidate will have to fill basic information. On submission of details, candidate will be prompted to check the details and make correction, if any, in the application. The Part-I Registration process is FURTHER divided into 4(FOUR) pages:
  1. PAGE 1:  Personal Information of candidate such as ‘Name’, ‘DOB’, ‘Father’s name’, ‘Mother’s name’, ‘Address’ and ‘category’, Community the candidate belongs to (General, OBC, SC, ST), whether ‘Fee Remission’ is claimed etc is asked.
  2. PAGE 2: Here the system asks for ‘claiming age Relaxation’ if applicable.
  3. PAGE 3: Preferences are to be given using numbers 0/1/2/3/4 to “IMANA” “AFA” and “OTA “. Female candidates are eligible for OTA only.
  4. PAGE 4:  Here the system displays all the information provided by the candidate in the application form for verification. ‘Update’ button is also provided therein at the bottom of the Online Application details to move back and make any correction in the information filled in. The candidates are advised to check the filled in details and satisfy themselves that all information is correctly filled up. No change in information filled in by the candidates would be allowed at any subsequent stage of the examination process.
  • Part-II Registration consists of following Stages:
  1. Filling up Payment details (except for fee exempted candidates)
  2. Selection of examination centre
  3. Uploading of Photograph and Signature
  4. Agreeing to declaration.
  • Registration of Part-I & Part-II will be treated as valid from 00-00 hrs of 07-11-2015 to 23-59 hrs of 04-12-2015
    and applicants making force entry outside the above timings will be treated as invaild.
  • Candidate must press “I agree” button after he/she finds that information supplied by him/her is in order and no correction is required. Thereafter no correction/modification shall be allowed.
  • When “I agree” button is pressed, a page with Registration No. will be generated. Please note down registration number or take a print out of the page. The application is incomplete without payment , selection of centre, uploading of scanned photograph & signature and agreed for declaration.
  • Scanned photograph should be in JPG format. The digital size of file must be less than 40 kb and greater than 3 kb and resolution 140 pixel height by 110 pixel width and Bit Depth of image file should be 24 bit.
  • Then upload your scanned signature in JPG format. The digital size of each file must be less than 40 kb and greater than 1 kb and resolution 110 pixel height by 140 pixel width and Bit Depth of image file should be 24 bit.
  • Candidates can pay application fee online though SBI net banking or by cash through SBI bank challan or through credit card/debit card.
  • To pay fee in cash, candidate should take printout of challan generated online after completion of registration. Candidate may go to nearest SBI branch for depositing fee after 24 hours of generation of challan.
  • Those who want to pay online through SBI portal can go directly during submission of online form.
  • On successful completion of your complete application, an auto-generated email will be sent on your registered email-id. In case email is not received by you please check / ensure that submission of Part-II of the Application has been made by you.
  • Candidates are advised to go through the instructions carefully before filling up the application form.

Cases in which CDS Application is Rejected:

  • Application being rejected on the grounds of bad quality of submitted photograph.
  • Application being rejected on the grounds of bad quality of submitted signature.
  • Application being rejected on the grounds of swapping of photograph with that of signature.
  • Application rejected due to submission of photograph only, i.e no signature submitted or photograph submitted at the place of signature as well.
  • Application rejected due to submission of signature only i.e. no photograph submitted or signature submitted at the place of signature as well.
  • Only PART-I of the application is submitted to the Commission and thus their application is incomplete because of non-submission of PART-II Sample I
  • Application submitted multiple applications however fee deposited (Transaction ID ) against a particular application (Registration ID) is mentioned for other application having different Registration ID.
  • Applicant submitted PART-I and paid fee as well, but did/could not complete PART-II i.e. failed to submit photograph and signature.
  • Application being rejected on the grounds of non submission of payment proof to the Commission within specified time in case of fictitious payment, Fictitious payment cases are those cases for which the Commission does not receive any information from the bank authorities to which the applicant has claimed to have deposited his/her fees.

  • In part -1 registration there is a part regarding communities category, and i belong to obc non-creamy layer, and there is confusion whether i have to choose yes/no in this category.
