Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has issued a stern warning regarding potential actions against US universities in the Middle East following airstrikes attributed to US-Israeli forces that reportedly targeted Iranian educational institutions. In a statement released by Iranian media, the Guard declared that if the US does not issue an official condemnation of the alleged bombings by noon on March 30, Tehran time, its universities could face retaliation.
The statement explicitly advised “all employees, professors, and students of American universities in the region” to maintain a distance of at least one kilometer from their campuses, highlighting a growing concern for safety amidst escalating tensions. This caution comes as several US universities have established campuses throughout the Gulf region, including Texas A&M University in Qatar and New York University in the United Arab Emirates.
Recent airstrikes that occurred overnight from Friday to Saturday reportedly targeted sites in Tehran, including the University of Science and Technology, which suffered building damage but, fortunately, did not report any casualties. As tensions between the US and Iran continue to heighten, the implications of these threats could have significant impacts on university operations in the Middle East and the safety of students and faculty members affiliated with American institutions in the region.
