Israeli Air Strikes Kill 29 Palestinians Amid Ceasefire Talks Stalemate

Israeli air strikes on Sunday resulted in the deaths of at least 29 Palestinians, including six children, near a water distribution point in Gaza. This escalation of violence coincided with a stalemate in indirect ceasefire negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, taking place in Qatar.

Gaza’s civil defense agency reported that multiple strikes targeted Gaza City overnight into early Sunday, claiming the lives of eight individuals, including women and children. Civil defense spokesman Mahmud Bassal detailed that an air strike on a family home near the Nuseirat refugee camp, located to the south of Gaza City, resulted in ten fatalities and numerous injuries.

In a tragic incident in central Gaza, a drone strike hit a potable water distribution point in an area designated for displaced persons within the Nuseirat camp, killing six children among the eight victims reported. Several others sustained injuries in this strike.

Furthermore, three more people were killed in the southern region of Gaza when Israeli jets targeted a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in Al-Mawasi. The Israeli military has not yet commented on these attacks, although it has ramped up operations across Gaza after the conflict reignited following Hamas’s assault in October 2023.

On Saturday, the Israeli military announced that its fighter jets had targeted over 35 “Hamas terror targets” around Beit Hanun in northern Gaza. The ongoing conflict has severely impacted the nearly two million residents of Gaza, with most having been displaced at least once amid worsening humanitarian conditions.

Media restrictions and access challenges within Gaza hinder independent verification of casualty figures and details released by both the civil defense agency and other sources. The situation remains dire as communities continue to suffer from the consequences of the ongoing conflict.
