Latvia has officially kicked off the development of a new barracks at the Ādaži military base, as part of its initiative to bolster its compulsory military service program. Spanning 7,860 square meters (approximately 84,604 square feet), the new facility is intended to accommodate around 450 military personnel. The construction plan includes specialized external engineering spaces and a designated maneuvering and access road designed to enhance site accessibility.
The barracks will be a four-story structure, with the ground floor designated for classrooms and storage areas, while the upper levels will focus on living quarters for the soldiers. Notably, the interior of the building is set to feature improved ventilation, heating, and air conditioning systems aimed at providing quality living conditions for the troops stationed there.
The infrastructure project, which includes design and supervision, is estimated to cost 475,530 euros ($543,410) and is being spearheaded by Citrus Solutions. The actual construction of the barracks will require an investment of 9,977,441.33 euros ($11.4 million), with Selva Būve taking the lead on this aspect of the project. Completion of the barracks is anticipated within a year.
Defence Minister Andris Sprūds emphasized the significance of the National Defence Service in Latvia’s security framework, stating that the new barracks would offer adequate accommodation for soldiers participating in the program. He highlighted that this initiative reflects a commitment to the planned development of military infrastructure, crucial for meeting daily operational needs while contributing to the overall enhancement of the country’s defense capabilities.
