Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma Reviews RIMC’s Infrastructure and Academic Achievements in Military Education

Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Army Training Command (ARTRAC), conducted a comprehensive review of infrastructure projects and ongoing development initiatives at The Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in Dehradun. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Colonel Rahul Agarwal, the Commandant of RIMC, who provided insights into the institution’s remarkable consistency in achieving excellence in both academic and military preparatory results, particularly concerning the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) entrance examinations for the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA).

RIMC has once again solidified its reputation as a leading feeder institution for the Indian Armed Forces by producing an impressive tally of successful candidates in the NDA and NA Examination (I) for 2025. Notably, 28 cadets from RIMC successfully passed the UPSC-conducted exam, with one cadet achieving the coveted All India Rank 1 and five others securing positions within the top 20, according to the results disclosed on April 28, 2025.

During his visit, Lt Gen Sharma, who boasts over four decades of distinguished military service encompassing leadership roles in counter-terrorism and high-altitude operations, commended the RIMC faculty for their unwavering commitment and the high standards upheld in cadet preparation. He emphasized that the college plays an essential role in creating a robust pipeline of future military leaders who are aligned with India’s strategic objectives and operational readiness, as discussed in the recent 2023 Journal of Defence Studies.

The General’s visit included interactions with both staff and cadets, alongside an inspection of campus facilities. He reaffirmed RIMC’s pivotal position as a cornerstone of defense education in India. Established in 1922, RIMC continues to nurture young aspirants for the Army, Navy, and Air Force, instilling core values of discipline, leadership, and national service. The recent outstanding NDA results further reinforce RIMC’s legacy as one of India’s most formidable military preparatory institutions.
