Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, recently conducted the Annual Administrative Inspection of the Military Intelligence Training School & Depot (MINTSD) in Pune. This visit underscored the significance of the institution in enhancing the capabilities of military intelligence personnel.
During the inspection, Lt Gen Seth was briefed by Lt Gen Devinder Pal Singh, the Commandant of MINTSD, who highlighted the institution’s advanced training initiatives and ongoing infrastructure developments. These enhancements are aimed at increasing the school’s capacity to provide world-class intelligence training, crucial for addressing contemporary security challenges.
The Army Commander toured various facilities at MINTSD, taking particular note of the state-of-the-art Digital Imagery Section and specialized Military Intelligence Equipment. His engagement with both faculty and students reflected a proactive approach to understanding the challenges faced by today’s military intelligence operatives. He praised the institution’s progressive adoption of technology, emphasizing its importance in equipping personnel to meet evolving threats.
Lt Gen Seth commended the institution for its commitment to excellence in delivering cutting-edge training to not only the Indian Armed Forces but also to para-military forces and other intelligence professionals. MINTSD, originally founded in 1941 in Karachi under British command, has a storied history marked by several relocations—first to Murree (Pakistan), then to Mhow (Madhya Pradesh), and ultimately to its present location in Pune. The school has established itself as a premier institution dedicated to the training of intelligence professionals across all branches of the armed forces.
Notably, MINTSD recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, which highlights its long-standing contribution to the intelligence capabilities of the Indian military. Through continuous advancements in training programs and infrastructure, MINTSD plays an essential role in shaping the future of military intelligence in India, reinforcing the country’s preparedness against complex and evolving security challenges.
