Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, recently visited the Defence Security Corps (DSC) Centre in Kannur. The primary objective of his visit was to review ongoing training initiatives, welfare activities, and the overall preparedness for humanitarian assistance in the region.

During his time at the Centre, Lt Gen Seth received a detailed briefing about its crucial role in training personnel, operational responsibilities, and the troops’ readiness for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. He praised the Centre for its exemplary contributions during the Wayanad Flood Relief Operations last year, highlighting the professionalism and rapid response displayed by the soldiers in supporting civil authorities during the crisis.

A significant aspect of the visit was the inauguration of “The Golden Boots – Tribute to Unknown Soldiers,” a memorial dedicated to honoring the bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering spirit of the soldiers who have given their lives in service of the country. This memorial serves as a poignant reminder and a source of inspiration for future generations of soldiers.

Additionally, Lt Gen Seth expressed his approval of the newly established Military–Civil Fusion Training Node, which aims to enhance coordination between armed forces and local civil agencies to improve disaster response efforts and foster civic cooperation.

In alignment with the Indian Army’s ongoing focus on veteran welfare, the Army Commander inaugurated the newly constructed Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic in Iritty. This facility is set to provide comprehensive healthcare services to veterans and their dependents across North Kerala.

Throughout his interactions with both troops and veterans, Lt Gen Seth reiterated the Southern Command’s commitment to training excellence, community partnerships, and the welfare of ex-servicemen. His visit underscored the Indian Army’s steadfast dedication to operational preparedness, humanitarian assistance, and the well-being of its military community.
