In a significant high-level security review, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, conducted an assessment of the current situation and ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the strategically vital regions of Doda, Ramban, and Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. These areas have recently garnered increased attention due to their susceptibility to cross-border infiltration and insurgent activities.
The visit aligns with the ongoing execution of Operation SHIVA, a crucial security initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of the region, particularly during sensitive events like the Amarnath Yatra, which attracts large religious gatherings. During his visit, Lt Gen Sharma was briefed comprehensively by ground commanders on troop deployments, threat assessments, and the integration of advanced surveillance technologies within the Army’s counter-insurgency operations.
He expressed commendation for the troops, acknowledging their operational alertness, discipline, and morale while conducting anti-terrorism operations under challenging terrain and conditions. The use of cutting-edge technology was highlighted as a vital component of monitoring suspicious activities, improving response capabilities, and enhancing coordination with paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies.
Furthermore, the review underscored the critical need for inter-agency collaboration and civil-military cooperation to ensure not only territorial security but also the promotion of peace and development in these conflict-affected regions. The Indian Army’s sustained vigilance in the upper districts of Jammu plays a vital role in the broader national effort to secure the Line of Control and safeguard internal areas from extremist threats.
