Lieutenant General Raghu Srinivasan, the Director General of Border Roads (DGBR), conducted a significant visit to Project Swastik on Tuesday to evaluate the restoration efforts of the Lachen axis, which has faced severe damage following the cloudburst in June 2025.
During his assessment, the DGBR visited the Taram Chu Bridge site, where preparations are underway for launching a Bailey Suspension Bridge. This critical infrastructure project aims to restore essential connectivity along the axis, which is vital for civilian access and military logistics.
In addition to inspecting the bridge site, Lieutenant General Srinivasan held discussions with the General Officer Commanding of the 33 Corps and the Commander of the Chaten Brigade. They explored possibilities for operational synergy and reviewed the progress of several key border infrastructure projects crucial to the region’s development.
The visit concluded with a meeting with the Chief Secretary of Sikkim, where the DGBR reaffirmed the Border Roads Organisation’s dedication to supporting the state. He expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation and assistance provided by the local administration, highlighting the importance of joint efforts in enhancing infrastructure resilience in the region.
