Lieutenant Nishkal Dwivedi marked a significant milestone in the history of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) by securing the prestigious Sword of Honour during the 157th Passing Out Parade at the historic Drill Square in Dehradun. This event took place on December 13, 2025, and highlighted the culmination of rigorous training for 525 Officer Cadets, including those from various courses such as the 157th Regular Course and the 46th Technical Entry Scheme.
The Sword of Honour, awarded to the Officer Cadet who exhibits the highest levels of leadership, discipline, character, and military bearing, notably underscores Lieutenant Dwivedi’s extraordinary commitment and professionalism throughout his training. His achievement, further distinguished by also receiving the Gold Medal for being first in the overall Order of Merit, places him amongst a select group of officers celebrated for consistent excellence.
Reviewing the grand parade, Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, congratulated the newly commissioned officers on completing one of the country’s most challenging military training programmes. He described the role of a soldier as a sacred calling, emphasizing selfless service and moral courage as essential virtues. His remarks drew on the IMA’s timeless motto, “Valour and Wisdom,” reaffirming the institution’s legacy of producing dedicated leaders who embody the highest traditions of the Indian Army.
During his address, General Upendra Dwivedi spoke to the complexities of modern warfare, which now intertwines military, technological, and societal elements. He highlighted Operation SINDOOR as an example of how contemporary conflicts require a blend of diplomatic engagement and decisive military action. The COAS encouraged the young officers to remain adaptable and uphold ethical conduct while serving as mentors to their troops, ensuring they display calm and clear-headedness during crises.
The ceremony was attended by proud family members, senior Army officers, and distinguished guests, all witnessing the emotional culmination of years of dedication and hard work. The tradition of ‘Antim Pag’, the final step symbolizing the transition of Officer Cadets to commissioned officers, marked the conclusion of the parade.
The event also showcased the successful training of 34 Officer Cadets from 14 friendly foreign nations, reinforcing the strong international relationships fostered at the academy. General Dwivedi commended these international cadets, stating that the bonds formed at the IMA bolster military cooperation and mutual understanding across nations.
