Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, recently visited the Foreign Training Node (FTN) in Pithoragarh to assess the joint training exercises currently underway between the Nepali Army contingent and the Indian Army. This collaborative exercise is primarily focused on counter-terrorism operations in alignment with the United Nations Chapter VII mandate. Additionally, it includes critical training for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) tasks, designed to address the unique security challenges present in the strategically vital India–Nepal region.

During his visit, Lt Gen Sengupta engaged directly with troops from both nations, taking the time to commend their impressive interoperability, professionalism, and seamless coordination throughout the exercise. He noted the effective integration of niche technologies into the training modules, highlighting a progressive approach to modern military training that reflects the changing dynamics of regional security.

Emphasizing the importance of preparedness, Lt Gen Sengupta urged both the participating troops and the Exercise Control Team to carry out a rigorous and realistic assessment during the forthcoming Command Post Exercise (CPX) and Field Training Validation Exercise (FTX). He articulated the significance of mutual learning and the exchange of best practices, which are essential for fortifying the bilateral military cooperation between India and Nepal.

The visit served to reaffirm the commitment of both armies to not only enhance regional security but also to ensure operational readiness in the challenging Himalayan frontier, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
