Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, recently visited the Infantry School in Mhow to evaluate its training, operational, and administrative functions.
During his visit, Lt Gen Sengupta closely examined the training methodologies employed at the school, observing various tactical exercises and modern instructional techniques aimed at enhancing the combat readiness of infantry officers and soldiers. He expressed his appreciation for the high standards of training and well-maintained infrastructure, acknowledging the significant contribution of the Infantry School in shaping the trajectory of the Indian Army’s infantry forces.
Established in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, the Infantry School is one of the oldest and largest military training institutions within the Indian Army. Its legacy dates back to its founding in a city that has long served as a military hub, significantly contributing to the development and refinement of infantry tactics and leadership capabilities. The school plays a crucial role in training personnel to operate effectively in diverse environments and terrains, preparing them for the complexities of modern combat scenarios.

Key elements of the Infantry School include specialized focus areas such as tactical drills, marksmanship, combat leadership, and operational planning, all of which are essential for the contemporary battlefield landscape. A notable component of the Infantry School is the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), which trains India’s National Shooting Team and has been instrumental in producing medal-winning marksmen at national and international competitions. Additionally, the school’s Commando Wing, located in Belgaum, Karnataka, oversees specialized training in unconventional warfare and commando operations.
