In a significant move to bolster indigenous defence manufacturing, Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, recently visited L&T Precision Engineering & Systems in Talegaon, near Pune. The visit aimed at reviewing the company’s capabilities in the defence sector, showcasing India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence production.
During the visit, Lt Gen Seth was presented with an extensive briefing on a variety of advanced defence systems that are currently being developed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T). The focus of the discussions included state-of-the-art artillery guns and launchers, sophisticated air defence systems, combat engineering solutions, and cutting-edge radar technologies. Such innovations are critical for modernizing the Indian Army and enhancing its operational readiness.
L&T’s team highlighted its advanced manufacturing facilities, which include high-tech simulation tools and comprehensive testing infrastructure. This end-to-end development capability is essential for building complex defence platforms that meet the demands of contemporary warfare.
The interactions also concentrated on the Indian Army’s emerging and futuristic capability requirements, with a review of next-generation platforms under development at L&T. These platforms are designed to tackle evolving operational challenges, reflecting the changing landscape of military engagements in the region.
Lt Gen Seth reaffirmed the crucial role of Indian industry in enabling a technology-driven Army. He commended L&T for its significant contributions to advancing self-reliance in defence manufacturing, noting that such partnerships are essential for realizing the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. The importance of innovation and indigenisation was emphasized as pivotal factors in enhancing India’s defence preparedness.
