Lt Gen Rajiv K Sahni, AVSM, VSM, PhD, the Director General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) and Colonel Commandant, recently conducted a comprehensive visit to various key locations, including the Headquarters Southern Command, EME units, the Artificial Limb Centre, and prominent defense industries in Pune.
During his tour, Lt Gen Sahni focused on assessing ongoing operational and technical initiatives within EME establishments. He engaged in discussions with personnel responsible for equipment sustenance, innovation, and the development of indigenous capabilities. His feedback highlighted the impressive mission reliability maintained by EME units in the Southern Command, which stems from strategic and well-executed maintenance and sustenance approaches.
A significant point of discussion during the visit was the establishment of a robust in-house ecosystem for mass drone production, which he recognized as a pivotal advancement in enhancing operational readiness. By reducing reliance on external sources, this initiative aligns perfectly with the Indian Army’s goals of self-sufficiency and efficiency.
Additionally, Lt Gen Sahni expressed his admiration for the innovative spirit exhibited by EME personnel, particularly in adapting cutting-edge technologies to meet contemporary battlefield challenges. He acknowledged the swift integration of additive manufacturing, robotics, and cobotics into daily operational practices within Southern Command. Such technological advancements are not only revolutionizing maintenance, repair, and production processes but also support the Indian Army’s broader objectives of modernization and technological self-reliance.
