Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Southern Command, recently undertook a significant visit to the Bald Eagle Brigade stationed in the Rann of Kutch. This strategic trip aimed to assess the security posture and operational readiness of forces in the sensitive border region, amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor—a decisive military response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
During his visit, Lt Gen Seth conducted a comprehensive inspection of the rugged and marshy terrain of the Rann of Kutch, where he engaged directly with troops actively working in the area. He received detailed briefings regarding the current ground situation and the myriad security measures implemented by the brigade under the Desert Corps. Praising the soldiers for their unwavering resilience and vigilance, he noted their professionalism and high morale in establishing a robust defensive presence along the contentious stretch of the Indo-Pak border.
The Bald Eagle Brigade has been instrumental in safeguarding the Rann and Creek Sector—regions known for their historical conflict and infiltration attempts. This area, particularly important for national security, was notably contested during the 1965 Indo-Pakistani war.
This visit follows Operation Sindoor, which was initiated as a retaliatory military campaign targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Launched in response to the tragic Pahalgam attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including civilians and a Navy officer, the operation successfully executed precision strikes on multiple terror camps. Among the key targets was a Lashkar-e-Taiba training facility in Muridke, Punjab, Pakistan, known for its connections to the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
In addition to assessing current operations, Lt Gen Seth acknowledged the brigade’s ongoing efforts to maintain high operational readiness. Notably, the unit had recently executed a rigorous exercise named “Forging Rugged Resilience” in 2024, which showcased their capacity to adapt and operate effectively under extreme environmental and tactical conditions.
This inspection not only reaffirmed the Southern Command’s commitment to maintaining national security but also emphasized the necessity of inter-service cooperation. By underscoring the strategic relevance of the Rann of Kutch and the critical role of the Bald Eagle Brigade, Lt Gen Seth’s visit served to reinforce India’s determination to counter cross-border threats and ensure enduring stability along its western frontier.
