In a notable move to enhance India’s eastern defenses, Lt Gen R.C. Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command, visited the forward areas of the Gajraj Corps to assess the operational readiness, internal security situation, and the progress of ongoing infrastructure development initiatives within the formation.
During his visit, Lt Gen Tiwari laid the foundation stone for the Lachit Borphukan Military Station in Bamunigaon, located in Dhubri district, Assam. This project aims to bolster the Army’s operational capabilities and logistical support in the strategically significant eastern sector.
The Army Commander received extensive briefings on various measures related to operational preparedness and border management, as well as updates on infrastructure projects designed to enhance troop mobility and sustain mission effectiveness along India’s eastern borders. Additionally, he took the time to engage with troops stationed at forward outposts, praising their professionalism, vigilance, and dedication to securing the nation’s frontiers, especially under challenging terrain and weather conditions.
Lt Gen Tiwari expressed his gratitude to the Government of Assam and the local civil administration for their proactive support in facilitating the establishment of the new military station. He emphasized the importance of the collaboration between the Army and local authorities, stating that such synergy is vital for ensuring long-term regional stability and development.
Recognizing the unwavering dedication of the Gajraj Corps, the General Officer commended all ranks for their resilience and efforts toward the timely operationalization of the new base. He reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to maintaining a high level of preparedness while actively contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
Once completed, the Lachit Borphukan Military Station is expected to emerge as a significant hub for operational logistics, training, and coordination within the eastern theater, thereby reinforcing India’s strategic posture along its borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh.
