Mahindra Group has introduced a new All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) based on the Thar Roxx, specifically tailored for military applications. This initiative aims to provide the Indian Army with a robust vehicle for rigorous evaluation and trials.

Designed as a purpose-built platform for security forces, the new ATV incorporates significant structural and functional modifications to optimize its performance in combat and challenging terrain conditions. The vehicle’s deployment hinges on thorough assessments by the Army before any procurement decisions are reached.

The Thar Roxx-based ATV features a rugged design that includes all-terrain tyres, a reinforced roll cage, rock sliders, and underbody protection to withstand the harshest environments. To enhance operational flexibility and minimize weight, the vehicle has been stripped of its doors and roof, while metal pipe structures and grab handles improve mobility and accessibility in demanding field operations.

A standout feature is its modular design, which accommodates a 360-degree turret mount compatible with a 7.62 mm medium machine gun, alongside multiple mounting points for additional equipment. The ATV is further equipped with practical tools such as a winch, farm jack, and jerrycan holder, making it well-suited for extended missions in remote locations.

Under the hood, the ATV is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that delivers 172 hp and 400 Nm of torque. It is enhanced by a 4×4 drivetrain and automatic transmission, complemented by a suspension setup that provides increased ground clearance for navigating rugged terrains, including rocky landscapes and off-road tracks.

Additionally, the vehicle features MOLLE storage systems for carrying essential military gear and reinforced hoist brackets that enable airdrop capabilities—a critical requirement for quick deployment in various operational scenarios.

This development underscores Mahindra’s continued collaboration with the Indian armed forces, having previously provided a range of vehicles, including the Armado, Marksman, and Scorpio Classic.

The introduction of this ATV symbolizes a significant move towards fostering indigenous defence mobility solutions, aligning with India’s ambitions for self-reliance and the modernization of its military capabilities.
