A significant transition took place at the 39 Gorkha Training Centre, where Major General C.S. Dewgun officially relinquished his role as the Colonel of the 3rd Gorkha Rifles. This change comes after an impressive tenure of 35 years dedicated to the Indian Army.

The ceremony was attended by a diverse gathering, including officers, veterans, Agniveers, and prominent members of the regimental community, all coming together to honor Major General Dewgun’s leadership. His time in command was characterized by a passionate commitment to the welfare of his troops, alongside a deep respect for the storied traditions of the Gorkha Regiment. Tributes poured in, recognizing his insightful approach and the humane qualities that endeared him to many.

With the departure of Major General Dewgun, the ceremonial mantle of leadership has been passed to Major General K. Mahesh, who currently serves as the General Officer Commanding of the 8 Mountain Division. His appointment as the new Colonel of the Regiment is seen as a continuation of the legacy, preserving the regimental ethos and enhancing the camaraderie that defines the 3rd Gorkha Rifles.

The event marks not only a pivotal moment in the regiment’s history but also a reaffirmation of the values and traditions that have made the Gorkhas a distinguished part of the Indian Army for generations.
