In a notable effort to enhance health and well-being in remote areas, a medical camp was organized in Moradbagh and surrounding villages of Mushkoh Valley, Ladakh, as part of Operation Sadbhavana. This initiative is specifically aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of women and children residing in regions that are often overlooked due to their geographical isolation and challenging conditions.
Over 150 individuals benefited from this camp, receiving free medical consultations, essential medicines, and health check-ups. Among the attendees, more than 120 were women, indicating the particular emphasis placed on female healthcare, which often remains a pressing issue in such high-altitude areas. The camp not only catered to immediate medical requirements but also promoted awareness about preventive healthcare and maternal and child health practices, which are vital for improving overall health outcomes in these communities.
Operation Sadbhavana, which translates to “Goodwill,” is a significant humanitarian initiative led by the Indian Army in Ladakh. Launched in the late 1990s, the program aims to strengthen civil-military relations and support the socio-economic development of remote and border communities. This initiative encompasses a wide range of activities beyond military duties, focusing on education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, infrastructure development, and community engagement.
Under this operation, the Indian Army consistently conducts medical camps, establishes schools, provides scholarships, and offers vocational training to uplift the local population. These efforts have markedly improved the quality of life for those in secluded areas while reinforcing the bond between the Army and the people of Ladakh.
The medical camp was conducted by the Fire & Fury Corps, a division responsible for protecting India’s northern frontiers, including the sensitive Line of Control (LoC) and Line of Actual Control (LAC). Renowned for their operational capabilities in some of the harshest terrains and extreme altitudes, the Fire & Fury Corps serves a dual purpose: ensuring national security and extending essential services to local communities.
