Indian Army Everester Sub Maj Ram Bahadur Mal, SM of 13 Garhwal Rifles. He has climbed Mount Everest Twice, Mount Makalu and Five other peaks over 19000 ft in record time.
Sub Maj Ram Bahadur Mal was the part of a 12 members team of Indian Army soldiers Everest Expedition led by Lt. Colonel Ishwar Singh Thapa recorded reaching the summit in the year 2007 from the North Col side.
The Army Expedition to Mt Everest 2007 was launched during March – June 2007. The expedition achieved unprecedented success by putting 12 climbers on top of Mt Everest (8848M) on 15 and 16 May 2007, through the North face in Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR).
A team of 18 soldiers from the Indian Army participated in the mountaineering in which Ram Bahadur Mall was involved. Recently in May 2019, Mal hoisted the national flag on Mount Makalu, the world’s highest fifth number peak.
Sub Maj Ram Bahadur Mal said the peak of Mount Makalu is situated at an altitude of about 8463 meters. This peak is in Nepal and one of the most challenging peak and Mount Everest about 8848 meters has been conquered twice by him as it is the world’s highest peak.
Indian Army in the recent past has also conducted Swachh Everest mission to collect and take down more than 4,000 kg of non-biodegradable rubbish and unwanted equipment left by the hundreds who ascend the world’s highest peak.
He has registered his name in Asia Book and India Book of Records.
