Motorola Solutions has successfully completed its acquisition of Silvus Technologies Holdings for $4.4 billion. Based in California, Silvus is renowned for its development of mission-critical mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs), which enable direct connections among radios, computers, and unmanned aerial systems. This innovative technology allows for the creation of flexible, self-organizing wireless networks that do not rely on fixed internet infrastructure.
The MANET system developed by Silvus is designed to maintain secure data, video, and voice communications across long distances, even in dynamic and high-mobility situations. Its ability to manage heavy data flows is complemented by features such as self-healing networks, which increase resilience by resisting jamming and minimizing the risk of detection.
Motorola’s decision to acquire Silvus is timely, aligning with the increasing use of autonomous systems—including drones, vehicles, and robots—in frontline operations. The tech giant aims to leverage its extensive experience and established relationships with government and public safety clients to amplify Silvus’ global presence.
This acquisition was first announced in May 2025, when Motorola expressed its intention to absorb Silvus with an upfront financial commitment. Motorola Solutions CEO and Chairman Greg Brown highlighted the strategic importance of this move, stating, “This acquisition underscores our unwavering conviction that technology is the bedrock for protecting communities, securing borders, and defending against today’s ever-evolving threats, whether in the air, on the ground, or in the water.”
