Commander Ronie Chowpoo Leads INS Khanjar Team at 37th Biennial Battalion Commanders’ Conference of Kumaon and Naga Regiments

A significant event unfolded in Ranikhet on the 27th and 28th of October, 2025, as Commander Ronie Chowpoo, Commanding Officer of INS Khanjar, led a team to the 37th Biennial Battalion Commanders’ Conference of the Kumaon and Naga Regiments. Hosted at the Kumaon Regimental Centre, the conference highlighted the longstanding camaraderie and cooperative spirit between the Indian Navy and Indian Army.

INS Khanjar is a prominent vessel from the Eastern Sword (Sunrise Fleet) and has a strong affiliation with the Kumaon Regiment, Naga Regiment, and Kumaon Scouts—esteemed and decorated infantry formations within the Indian Army. The presence of Commander Chowpoo and his team at this gathering underscored the Navy’s profound respect for its Army counterparts, reinforcing the essence of unity among the armed forces.

The two-day conference brought together Commanding Officers from various battalions of both regiments, alongside senior serving officers and honored veterans. Vital discussions revolved around regimental traditions, operational excellence, and welfare initiatives, in addition to ways of enhancing the collective spirit that serves as the foundation of these military units.

INS Khanjar’s involvement in the conference highlighted the synergy and brotherhood inherent in India’s military. The gathering provided an excellent platform to celebrate the shared values of bravery, discipline, and sacrifice—principles that connect the Army and Navy as they undertake the critical mission of defending the nation’s borders both on land and at sea.

Affiliations between naval vessels and army regiments have historically fostered inter-service understanding and cooperation, and INS Khanjar’s ongoing engagement with the Kumaon and Naga Regiments serves to strengthen this tradition. This collaboration reflects the Indian Armed Forces’ integrated approach to national security and operational preparedness, ensuring excellence and readiness in their joint missions.
