NCERT to Include Operation Sindoor in School Textbooks, Earning Praise from Army Veterans

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced its decision to incorporate ‘Operation Sindoor’ into school textbooks, a move that has been highly commended by Army veterans. They view this inclusion as a significant step in educating the youth about India’s internal security operations and the nation’s battle against terrorism.

Wing Commander Praful Bakshi (Retd.) emphasized the operation’s importance, stating that it symbolizes India’s fight against terrorism. He expressed the necessity for school and college students, along with the general public, to grasp the operation’s impact, describing it as a turning point in the nation’s struggle against terror.

Colonel Rajiv Khakera (Retd.) characterized the moment as one of great pride. He highlighted how the Army utilized precision firepower and advanced missile systems during the operation, adding that it is heartening for children across the country to learn about this heroic chapter in history. He also suggested that such educational initiatives could inspire many young people to consider joining the Army.

Echoing similar sentiments, Lt Colonel Kapil Dutt (Retd.) called the decision “very good.” He believes that incorporating Operation Sindoor into the curriculum will deeply motivate students and instill a sense of service, potentially guiding them toward careers in the armed forces.

Retired military officers advocate for the preservation of Operation Sindoor in national memory due to its crucial role in shaping India’s counter-terrorism doctrine. They argue that including this content in school textbooks ensures that future generations acknowledge the sacrifices made by soldiers and learn about the lessons of modern warfare.

General P.S. Malhotra (Retd.) welcomed the decision, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s outreach efforts, particularly through programs like ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ which connect the government with the populace. He noted that including Operation Sindoor in educational materials serves to strengthen national identity.

NCERT plans to implement this significant change in the upcoming academic session. This initiative is part of a broader effort to weave military history and a sense of national pride into India’s educational framework, enriching the knowledge and perspective of students across the country.
