NSG K9 Unit Conducts Specialized Training for CAPFs & State Police

In a significant step towards enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement agencies in India, the National Security Guard’s elite K9 Training Wing at Manesar has successfully concluded an intensive K9 Training Module from 17 September to 12 October 2025. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ vision of fostering inter-agency cooperation, aptly summarized by the motto ‘Duty to Share’.

The four-week training program was designed to strengthen operational synergy and professional skills among various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and State Police organizations. Participants included 29 K9 trainers from notable forces such as the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Jharkhand Police, Delhi Police, and Rajasthan Police, all engaged in advanced-level training across specialized K9 disciplines.

The curriculum focused on multi-domain capabilities essential for modern security challenges. It encompassed intensive training sessions in key areas including Vapour Wake Detection, Explosive Detection, and Tracker and Assault K9 operations. Each component was engineered to prepare participants for real-world counter-terrorism and law enforcement scenarios, enabling them to navigate complex security challenges across urban landscapes and hostile environments.

Training in Vapour Wake Detection equipped dogs to identify explosive traces carried by moving air currents, thereby facilitating proactive threat identification, especially in crowded public areas. Specialized sessions for Explosive Detection Dogs focused on enhancing their ability to locate improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other concealed explosives with precision. Similarly, Tracker Dogs received advanced training to boost their tracking and pursuit capabilities across diverse terrains. Meanwhile, Assault K9s participated in combat-readiness drills aimed at improving their effectiveness during tactical operations.

Recognized as a leader in counter-terrorism training, the NSG K9 Unit has cemented its status as a nodal training agency for the development of specialized dog squads throughout India. The Manesar center, with its state-of-the-art infrastructure and seasoned handlers, is committed to providing participants with globally benchmarked exposure and hands-on experience in detection, tracking, and assault operations.

This initiative reflects the Ministry of Home Affairs’ dedication to building unified capabilities and operational excellence among India’s law enforcement agencies. It reinforces the collaborative spirit embodied in the motto ‘One Force, One Goal – National Security’, ensuring that K9 assets across the nation are equipped to operate with precision, discipline, and interoperability.

As conveyed by the NSG, the program aptly represents the essential role these K9 warriors and their skilled trainers play in protecting the nation from evolving threats, embodying the spirit of valour that walks on four paws.
