A 12-member team from the National Security Guard (NSG) has achieved a remarkable feat by successfully scaling Mount Satopanth, which stands at 7,075 meters, during its Pre-Everest Expedition conducted from October 13 to 24, 2025. This expedition, led by Major Akhilesh Bhatt, not only underscores the relentless spirit of the elite counter-terrorism force but also marks a significant preparatory milestone for their upcoming mission to conquer Mount Everest in 2026.
Mount Satopanth, located in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal Himalayas, is renowned for its dangerous weather conditions, steep ascents, and challenging glacial terrain. Despite posing formidable challenges, including extreme cold, high-altitude fatigue, and the threat of avalanches, the NSG team showcased extraordinary teamwork, discipline, and resilience—hallmarks that define the unit known as the Black Cats.
The climbing expedition served a dual purpose: it was both a means to bolster the team’s high-altitude endurance and a platform for testing leadership coordination and mission preparedness in extreme environments. These factors are crucial for the NSG’s operational readiness, especially in high-risk situations.
Achieving the summit of Mount Satopanth serves as a testament to the NSG’s steadfast commitment to excellence and aligns with its motto, “Sarvatra Sarvottam Suraksha” (Best Security Everywhere). With the Everest expedition approaching, the NSG is poised to push boundaries further, setting new standards in courage, training, and national pride.
As the Black Cats prepare to transition from the heights of Satopanth to the coveted summit of Everest, they continue to embody endurance and determination in their pursuit of excellence on behalf of their nation.
