An ‘Orientation Programme for Spouses of Young Officers’ was recently held under the auspices of the Eastern Command, showcasing a strong commitment to supporting Army families. This initiative drew participation from 25 military stations, highlighting the importance of community among military families.
Chaired by Mrs. Ashima Malhotra, Regional Vice President of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) for the Eastern Command, the programme offered a deep dive into AWWA’s vision and various welfare initiatives. Additionally, it presented numerous pathways for self-reliance, aimed at empowering spouses of young officers.
Key topics discussed during the sessions included digital engagement strategies, social media awareness, and protocols and etiquette pertinent to military life. Participants were also introduced to the regimental ethos and traditions that form the backbone of military culture. These sessions were designed to equip spouses with the skills and confidence necessary to navigate the complexities of military life effectively while making meaningful contributions to the welfare environment.
This initiative highlighted the indispensable role that Army wives play in fortifying family support systems and enhancing community cohesion. By fostering an understanding of the unique challenges and responsibilities that come with military life, the programme aimed to uphold the enduring values and traditions of the Indian Army, reinforcing the vital support framework for military families.
