Poland has taken a significant step in enhancing its military capabilities by contracting local defense manufacturer WB Group to supply 10,000 Warmate loitering munitions for its army. This ambitious agreement will see the production of these advanced weapons in their latest configuration, with deliveries scheduled to occur at a rate of 1,000 units at a time until the year 2035.
Upon arrival, the Warmate drones will be integrated as a standalone system, specifically designed for unmounted troops, as well as a vehicle-launched capability tailored for more mobile operations. The Polish government has emphasized the strategic importance of these kamikaze drones, which are set to play a critical role in identifying and neutralizing various threats, including light armored targets and enemy infantry units.
The Warmate loitering munitions boast impressive specifications. Measuring 1.1 meters in length and with a wingspan of 1.6 meters, the drones are engineered for efficiency and agility. Each unit has a maximum takeoff weight of 6 kilograms and can be equipped with a variety of warheads, including standard and thermobaric bombs, making them versatile tools for modern warfare.
Equipped with an electric motor, the Warmate can operate at an operational ceiling of up to 300 meters, achieving speeds of 150 kilometers per hour. Notably, these drones are capable of engaging adversarial assets from distances of up to 30 kilometers, significantly expanding the operational range for Polish forces.
The contract for the Warmate munitions was formalized in a ceremony attended by key officials, including Deputy Prime Minister WÅ‚adysÅ‚aw Kosiniak-Kamysz. The signing of this agreement underscores Poland’s commitment to bolstering its defense infrastructure and enhancing the capabilities of its armed forces in response to emerging security challenges in the region.
