Three days after retired Lieutenant General K S Mann succumbed to injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident, Panchkula Police are still striving to identify the vehicle and driver responsible for the fatal accident. The 83-year-old former Army officer was critically injured after being struck by an unidentified vehicle on Friday evening. He was promptly transported to the Command Hospital in Chandimandir, where he ultimately passed away the following day.
Despite ongoing investigative efforts, officials report significant challenges in tracking down the responsible party. One major obstacle is the lack of CCTV coverage at the precise location of the accident, which has hindered the inquiry. Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder Singh, who is officiating as the Station House Officer of the Mansa Devi Complex police station, indicated that authorities are reviewing footage from nearby cameras in hopes of piecing together the movements of the suspected vehicle.
As the investigation progresses, the post-mortem examination of Lt Gen Mann has been delayed pending the arrival of his son, who is flying in from the United States. The procedure will take place once the family is able to complete the necessary formalities.
Lt Gen Mann is survived by his wife and two sons—one of whom is currently serving as a Colonel in the Indian Army, while the other is an officer with the Canadian Police. He was also the brother of the late Brigadier Sukhi Mann, a highly esteemed officer from the Parachute Regiment.
