The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have made a crucial decision regarding the development of prototype Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).

Private Sector companies to build Prototypes of AMCA

It has been decided that private sector enterprises will play a substantial part in the development of these prototypes, as well as in the assembly of the jets before establishing a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to engage Indian manufacturers on a big scale.

Private Sector Companies to build Prototypes of AMCA

To begin, the AMCA prototypes will be partially developed by private sector enterprises. However, these prototypes will be assembled at HAL facilities. This collaboration between HAL and private sector firms is a significant step towards promoting indigenous defence production capabilities in India.

The further manufacture of the AMCA aircraft will take place at a different site operated by a new firm. A private sector corporation will own the bulk of this new company, with HAL holding a minority part. A significant amount of the aircraft’s fuselage will be constructed by private-sector enterprises under this arrangement.

The components will subsequently be assembled at HAL’s facilities. Importantly, HAL’s facilities will also be used to train private-sector employees in aeroplane assembly. This training programme will provide them with the skills needed to later manufacture the aircraft in the SPV’s new facility.

AMCA – Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft

The HAL Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) is an Indian initiative that will create fifth-generation stealth, multi-role combat aircraft for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, as well as sixth-generation technologies. The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) designs the aircraft.
