QUAD Leaders Summit 2025 In India

The leaders of the Quad group of countries, PM Modi, U.S. President Joe Biden, Australian PM Anthony Albanese and Japanese PM Fumio Kishida met at their sixth summit level meeting at Archmere Academy, Mr. Biden’s former school in Claymont, Delaware, to announce a broad range of outcomes. These included the launch of a new coast guard exercise, a logistics network, expansion of maritime surveillance, and a project to combat cervical cancer.

Top leaders of Quad unveiled major steps to expand maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and called for lasting peace in Ukraine with PM Narendra Modi asserting that the grouping is for a rules-based global order that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.

In the annual Quad summit hosted by outgoing US President Joe Biden at his home state of Delaware, the leaders, without directly naming China, expressed serious concern over the situation in the South China Sea and nearby waters and condemned the “dangerous” use of coast guard and maritime militia vessels in that region. Amid shared concerns over China’s growing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific, the Quad leaders strongly opposed any “destabilising or unilateral” actions that seek to change the status quo by force or coercion.

US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, said (local time) that he is thrilled to see the QUAD (countries coming together to announce new initiatives, adding that he is looking forward to the QUAD Leaders Summit in India, taking place in 2025. The next Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting will be hosted by the US in 2025, and the Quad Leaders’ Summit will be hosted by India in 2025. “The Quad is here to stay,” the declaration said. In 2025, the Quad Regional Ports and Transportation Conference is also likely to be held in Mumbai.

The declaration announced the Quad Cancer Moonshot, a “groundbreaking” partnership to save lives in the Indo-Pacific region, which will focus initially on combating cervical cancer. India, through its $10 million commitment to the WHO’s Global Initiative on Digital Health, will offer technical assistance to interested countries in the Indo-Pacific region for the adoption and deployment of its Digital Public Infrastructure that helps in cancer screening and care, it said.

It also welcomed the commitment from the Serum Institute of India, in partnership with Gavi, which will support orders of up to 40 million HPV vaccine doses, subject to approvals, for the Indo-Pacific region. The US Coast Guard, Japan Coast Guard, Australian Border Force, and Indian Coast Guard plan to launch a first-ever Quad-at-Sea Ship Observer Mission in 2025, to improve interoperability and advance maritime safety.

The launch of a Quad Indo-Pacific Logistics Network pilot project was also announced. “This will pursue shared airlift capacity among our nations and leverage our collective logistics strengths, in order to support civilian response to natural disasters more rapidly and efficiently…,” it said. The Quad Ports of the Future Partnership was announced, which will harness Quad’s expertise to support sustainable and resilient port infrastructure development across the Indo-Pacific.

India To Get First National Security Semiconductor Fabrication Plant

India and the USA will establish a new semiconductor fabrication plant focused on advanced sensing, communication, and power electronics for national security, next generation telecommunications, and green energy applications. The fab, which will be established with the objective of manufacturing infrared, gallium nitride and silicon carbide semiconductors, will be enabled by support from the India Semiconductor Mission as well as a strategic technology partnership between Bharat Semi, 3rdiTech, and the U.S. Space Force.
