Rear Admiral Iftekhar Alam has officially taken charge as the Additional Director General of the Warship Design Bureau (WDB) in New Delhi. This appointment comes at a crucial time for the Indian Navy, which is focusing on enhancing its ship design and capability development.
Commissioned into the Indian Navy on November 26, 1994, Rear Admiral Alam boasts extensive operational, technical, and command experience, making him well-suited for this pivotal role. He is a distinguished alumnus of multiple prestigious military institutions, including the Naval College of Engineering, the Naval War College in Goa, and the National Defence College in Kenya.
His academic credentials are noteworthy; Rear Admiral Alam holds an M.Tech and a PhD in Electronics and Telecommunication. Throughout his extensive career, he has been involved in a variety of afloat, staff, yard, and command positions. His contributions have been significant in areas such as warship engineering, systems integration, and the enhancement of naval capabilities.
In his new capacity at the Warship Design Bureau, Rear Admiral Alam is expected to be instrumental in promoting indigenous warship design and fostering innovation. His leadership will be vital for the Indian Navy as it aims for self-reliance and prepares to strengthen its maritime capabilities for the future.
