Saab and France Explore Potential Acquisition of GlobalEye AEW&C Aircraft for Military Use

Stockholm-based aerospace manufacturer Saab has entered into a significant agreement with CAE, a training and simulation solutions provider based in Quebec, Canada. This collaboration aims to enhance training for Saab’s GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft.

The formalization of this partnership coincided with the Swedish Royal Visit to Canada, underlining its importance. As part of the agreement, CAE has been designated as Saab’s preferred global partner for training and simulation solutions, with a specific focus on addressing Canada’s AEW&C requirements.

The collaboration is poised to leverage Saab’s extensive expertise in airborne surveillance systems, command systems, and the integration of AEW&C technologies, combined with CAE’s advanced capabilities in ground-based flight training. CAE will focus on developing comprehensive simulators, integrated mission platforms, and digital environments to cater to the training needs of pilots, mission specialists, and sustainment personnel.

Training sessions will be offered through CAE’s extensive global network of centers, ensuring that operational readiness is maintained for AEW&C fleets across different regions.

Micael Johansson, CEO and president of Saab, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating that it reinforces the company’s commitment to its GlobalEye customers and supports its strategy to provide top-tier airborne early warning capabilities paired with best-in-class training. He highlighted CAE’s trusted status and unmatched training expertise, asserting that this alliance would bolster operational readiness for users of Airborne Early Warning platforms on a global scale.

In addition to the training focus, the project is expected to stimulate innovation in surveillance technologies, create high-value job opportunities, and strengthen Canada’s defense-industrial base. It reflects an expanding collaboration between Sweden and Canada in aerospace innovation, promoting allied interoperability and enhancing global security measures.

Matt Bromberg, president and CEO of CAE, remarked that the agreement establishes a framework for a global AEW&C training franchise that is anchored in Canada. He underscored CAE’s expertise as essential for the mission and operational readiness of defense forces not only in Canada but globally. Bromberg noted that the announcement is the result of years of mutual trust and successful collaboration with Saab, responding effectively to the evolving geopolitical landscape that necessitates stronger and more integrated partnerships.
