Seminar on India-Tibet Cultural Ties Held at Central Command Headquarters in Lucknow

A seminar focused on the deep-rooted civilizational and cultural connections between India and Tibet recently convened at the Headquarters Central Command in Lucknow. The event attracted a diverse audience of military officers, academics, and civil officials who engaged in discussions about historical ties dating back to the 6th century when Buddhism was introduced to Tibet from India.

Retired Major General MS Mokha captivated attendees with his keynote address, which explored the historical foundations of India-Tibet relations. His insights resonated with those present, highlighting the significance of shared heritage. Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Command, commended the seminar’s efforts to illuminate historical narratives and their relevance in contemporary strategic frameworks. Drawing from his extensive military experience, including leadership roles in the Fire and Fury Corps in Leh and the Counter Insurgency Force in Kashmir, Lt Gen Sengupta stressed that understanding history is vital for developing a robust strategic culture and effective perception management.

A noteworthy moment during the seminar was the ceremonial exchange where Lt Gen Sengupta awarded a civilian participant, symbolizing the collaboration between military and civilian sectors. To capture the spirit of unity, a group photograph featuring all attendees was taken, emphasizing the event’s inclusive atmosphere.

This seminar is part of Central Command’s ongoing initiatives to promote cultural understanding and assist in veteran resettlement programs. The discussions also revisited India’s historical support for Tibet, particularly during the early 20th century when the 13th Dalai Lama sought asylum from Qing China’s invasion attempts.

Through revisiting these historical ties, the seminar aimed to inspire modern dialogues on strategic alliances and cultural diplomacy, potentially shaping India’s regional policies and relationships with its Himalayan neighbors.
