Tri-Service Sports Medicine Training Course Commences at AFMC Pune

The third Tri-Service eight-week Training Course in Sports Medicine for Medical Officers of the Armed Forces was launched at the Department of Sports Medicine, Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, on November 10, 2025. The course was inaugurated by Major General Atul Seth, Dean and Deputy Commandant of AFMC Pune.

This specialized programme aims to enhance the clinical skills of Armed Forces medical professionals in preventing, diagnosing, and managing training-related injuries while fostering expertise in optimizing human performance across the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The curriculum is meticulously designed to meet the unique physical demands of military training and operational readiness. Participants will gain the latest insights into sports physiology, rehabilitation techniques, nutrition science, and injury prevention protocols. These areas of focus are vital for maintaining combat fitness and ensuring the long-term health of service personnel.

One of the standout features of this initiative is its commitment to tri-service integration in medical training. By incorporating medical officers from all three branches of the Armed Forces, the course aims to standardize sports medicine practices across the military. This collaborative approach encourages joint learning, knowledge sharing, and integrated healthcare strategies that enhance physical conditioning in military contexts.

During his inaugural address, Major General Seth underscored the growing importance of sports medicine in contemporary military life. He emphasized that peak physical performance and resilience against injuries are paramount to mission success. He praised the Department of Sports Medicine for its innovative contributions toward clinical and academic leadership within AFMC.

The commencement of this training course exemplifies the Armed Forces’ dedication to comprehensive soldier care. By merging medical science with operational readiness, they aim to ensure that every soldier is fit, resilient, and prepared for the demands of their missions.
