Two Army personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district tragically lost their lives in separate incidents, as confirmed by military officials on Saturday.

In the first incident, Subedar (Operator) Sajeesh K, hailing from Kerala, died following a fall during an operation on Friday evening. He was leading a search party in the Seri Mastan area of Behramgalla when he lost his footing while navigating a steep slope and fell into a deep gorge. Despite immediate rescue efforts by his fellow troops, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

After legal and medical formalities were completed, his remains were returned to his hometown. The White Knight Corps expressed their condolences, stating, “General Officer Commanding White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Subedar (Operator) Sajeesh K, who made the supreme sacrifice while on an area domination patrol on Nov 21. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

In a separate occurrence on Saturday in the Mendhar sector, an Agniveer was fatally injured when he was struck by a bullet from his own service rifle while on duty at a forward post. Authorities reported that the soldier died instantly. An investigation has been initiated to determine whether the firearm discharge was accidental or if it was a case of suicide.

These incidents have deeply impacted the region, where the Army remains in a state of heightened operational readiness. The loss of these two servicemen emphasizes the dangers faced by personnel in the challenging environment of Jammu and Kashmir.
