In a tragic incident that underscores ongoing security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, two soldiers from the Indian Army, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), lost their lives during a fierce encounter with terrorists in the Guddar forest area of Kulgam district on Monday. The operation, which began in the early hours of the day following intelligence reports about the presence of militants, quickly escalated when terrorists initiated gunfire, leading to a heated exchange.

The fallen soldiers have been identified as Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu, both members of the elite paratrooper unit. The Chinar Corps, responsible for operations in the region, paid tribute to the soldiers’ bravery and dedication. In a statement shared on X, the Corps honored their supreme sacrifice, stating, “Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us. The Indian Army expresses deepest condolences and stands in solidarity with the bereaved families. Operation continues.”

During the initial stage of the encounter, security forces managed to neutralize a local terrorist in an orchard area. However, the situation intensified as the conflict moved into the forest, where the JCO sustained critical injuries. Reports indicate that a second terrorist, believed to be a foreign national, was also killed, although official identification of both slain militants remains pending.

This encounter marks the second significant clash in Kulgam within a five-week timeframe. Previously, in August, an extensive 11-day operation in the Akhal forest resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and injuries to ten others, highlighting the persistent risks faced by security forces in the region. Given the recent surge in infiltration attempts and militant activities in forested areas, security forces have ramped up their counter-terror operations throughout South Kashmir.

The sacrifice of Subedar Gaur and Lance Naik Sindhu has intensified the ongoing dialogue regarding the safety and stability of Jammu and Kashmir, an area grappling with a long history of conflict. Their legacy is expected to remain a guiding light for those who serve in the armed forces, reaffirming the commitment to national security amidst challenging circumstances.
