Two young doctors serving at the Indian Naval Hospital-Kalyani in Visakhapatnam tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Saturday. The incident occurred on the flyover near Essar Company under the jurisdiction of the Harbour police station, when the pair fell from their motorcycle and were subsequently run over by a truck.
The victims have been identified as Soumya Satish Asati, 25, a native of Maharashtra, and Lieutenant Megha Rawat, 26, who hailed from Delhi. According to police reports, the two were traveling from Sheela Nagar towards Convent Junction when the accident took place. Eyewitness accounts reveal that Soumya, who was riding the motorcycle, lost control while attempting to overtake a lorry and a car on the flyover. This maneuver caused both the rider and the pillion passenger to fall onto the roadway.
In a tragic turn of events, a truck that was approaching from behind was unable to stop in time and ran over both doctors, resulting in their immediate deaths. Police officials have indicated that preliminary investigations point toward negligence and a failure to adhere to road safety protocols. The initial findings suggest that the rider’s unsafe overtaking was primarily to blame for the tragic sequence of events.
Authorities have since registered a case and have sent the bodies for postmortem examination. The accident has cast a deep shadow of grief over both the naval and medical communities in Vizag, where the deceased were well-regarded for their dedication to their professions. The untimely loss of these young doctors has sent shockwaves through their circles, highlighting the ongoing concerns regarding road safety and the consequences of reckless driving.
