Ukraine’s military capabilities are set to be significantly enhanced with the latest development of the “Ruta” missile, which has evolved from its original function as a loitering munition. The newest iteration, referred to as the Block 2 variant, now boasts advanced capabilities that allow it to operate as a cruise missile.
Produced by the Dutch firm Destinus, the Block 2 can engage targets located more than 450 kilometers (approximately 155 miles) away. This extended range is coupled with the ability to carry a substantial 250-kilogram (551-pound) warhead, amplifying its striking power on the battlefield.
A key feature of the Block 2 variant is its incorporation of artificial intelligence, which enables the missile to switch between various guidance modes approaching its target.
