Ukraine’s SBU security service announced on Sunday that it had located and eliminated Russian agents responsible for the assassination of one of its members, Colonel Ivan Voronich. The assassination took place in Kyiv on Thursday, with the SBU declaring that a duo—comprising a man and a woman—was engaged in the attack.
In a statement, the SBU elaborated on the operation, noting that the agents from the Russian FSB had resisted during a special operation conducted by Ukrainian forces. While the statement did not disclose the exact number of casualties from the operation, a video shared by the SBU showed two bodies at the scene.
The agency also detailed how the assassination team meticulously studied Voronich’s daily patterns and routes, suggesting a calculated effort to carry out the targeted killing.
Over the past three years, Ukraine and Russia have exchanged accusations regarding the assassination of key political and military figures, alongside claims of sabotage and espionage activities. The ongoing tensions between the two countries have resulted in a complex landscape of covert operations and retaliatory strikes.
