The US military has confirmed the execution of a precise airstrike in Northwest Syria that resulted in the death of a senior finance and logistics officer from the Al-Qaeda affiliate, Hurras al-Din (HaD). The operation, conducted by US Central Command (CENTCOM), took place on Saturday and was aimed at disrupting the group’s efforts to plan and execute attacks against both civilians and military personnel in the region, including US forces and their allies.
The targeted individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was part of Hurras al-Din, an organization that has been actively involved in jihadist activities in the area. The airstrike marks a continuation of US efforts to diminish the operational capabilities of terrorist groups linked to Al-Qaeda.
This operation follows another airstrike conducted by CENTCOM on January 30, which resulted in the death of Muhammad Salah al-Zabir, another high-ranking operative within Hurras al-Din. These targeted strikes reflect a sustained military strategy by the US in combating extremism and protecting its national interests abroad.
Hurras al-Din was established in February 2018, and while it initially did not publicize its ties to Al-Qaeda, it confirmed its allegiance to the network in an announcement made last month, shortly before the dissolution of a related entity. The US government designated Hurras al-Din as a terrorist organization in 2019 and has been actively pursuing its members, offering financial rewards for credible information leading to their apprehension.
General Michael Erik Kurilla, representing CENTCOM, emphasized the commitment to relentlessly pursue terrorists to safeguard not only US homeland security but also the safety of allied and partner personnel in the volatile region. The airstrike serves as a reminder of the continuing threat posed by such organizations and the US military’s resolve to counteract them effectively.
