US Space Force Awards AeroVironment Contract for BADGER Antenna Systems in SCAR Program

The US Space Force has granted AeroVironment a significant contract to supply two BADGER phased array antenna systems as part of its Satellite Communication Augmentation Resource (SCAR) program. This initiative, overseen by the Space Rapid Capabilities Office, is focused on enhancing satellite command, control, and communication capabilities, aiming for more rapid and resilient operational effectiveness within the service.

The partnership specifies that the initial BADGER unit is set for delivery in the coming months, with further units anticipated to meet the operational needs of the SCAR program. This contract is structured under an Other Transaction Agreement—a flexible governmental arrangement designed to expedite procurement processes while ensuring the readiness of the systems involved.

BADGER, an acronym for Broad Area Deployable Ground terminal enabling Resilient communication, is a versatile and portable satellite antenna designed for swift deployment in various locations. It empowers military personnel to effectively track satellites, transmit and receive critical signals, and maintain uninterrupted communications, even in complex or congested space environments.

In terms of production scalability and supply chain management, AeroVironment has successfully preserved future production options for additional SCAR systems. The company has also expanded vital supplier agreements, which are essential for reinforcing its supply chain and adhering to established timelines. With more BADGER units nearing completion, these are projected for delivery in early 2026 to support large-scale overseas deployment.

Importantly, a Mission Support Container housing the electronics and software necessary to operate the BADGER units was delivered ahead of schedule this summer. This container is now prepared for final integration testing, a crucial step in the deployment process.

Wahid Nawabi, the chairman, CEO, and president of AeroVironment, emphasized the organization’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology to enhance satellite command and control capabilities. He expressed confidence in the BADGER technology and highlighted the company’s determination to scale production in alignment with the operational demands set forth by the Space Force.

Notably, BlueHalo, which AeroVironment acquired in May 2025, had previously secured a $1.4 billion contract in 2022 to assist in the implementation of the SCAR program. AeroVironment showcased its BADGER antenna system in 2023, along with a related backend satellite mission service operation in 2024, underscoring its pivotal role in advancing military communication strategies.
