Arms company Valhalla Turrets has introduced a cutting-edge remote weapon station named the Mangart 30, specifically designed for Patria 8×8 Armored Modular Vehicles (AMVs). The unveiling took place during the Armed Forces Day celebration in Koper, located in southwest Slovenia, where the advanced system showcased its complete integration into the armored carriers.
This innovative weapon station was developed in close partnership with the Ministry of Defence and the Slovenian Armed Forces, highlighting a strong commitment to enhancing national defense capabilities. The Mangart 30 is tailored to meet the rigorous demands of modern combat. It is equipped with a Busmaster Mk44S 30mm autocannon, which is capable of firing both airburst ammunition and standard 30x173mm rounds. Additionally, the system boasts an FN MAG general-purpose machine gun that carries an impressive 2,200 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition, ensuring substantial firepower.
Enhancing its tactical advantages, the remote-controlled turret is constructed with NATO-standard STANAG armor, offering varied protection levels (Levels 1 and 2). Moreover, the Mangart 30 includes eight smoke grenade launchers, providing an additional layer of survivability for the AMVs on the battlefield.
Valhalla Turrets emphasized that the introduction of the Mangart 30 demonstrates Slovenia’s capability to develop sophisticated defense technologies that can compete on a global scale. The launch is part of Slovenia’s broader military modernization strategy, which has recently included a significant agreement with Finland regarding the acquisition of Patria 8×8 carriers. A letter of intent signed in February outlines plans to purchase approximately 106 of these armored vehicles for a total estimated cost of 695 million euros (about $730 million).
This procurement initiative is a strategic response to NATO’s specifications for medium battalion battle groups. It follows the cancellation of an earlier deal to acquire 45 Boxer AMVs, which were later determined to be inadequate for the intended military needs. The latest developments underscore Slovenia’s commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities and adapting to the evolving demands of modern warfare.
