Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, AVSM, NM, has officially taken command of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC), assuming the role of the 19th Commander-in-Chief (CINCAN) on October 1, 2025. This transition is significant as it marks a new chapter in India’s only Joint Services Command, which plays a pivotal role in the nation’s defense strategy.

To honor the occasion, Vice Admiral Kochhar laid a wreath at Bayonet Square, paying tribute to the brave souls who sacrificed their lives in service. He also reviewed a ceremonial Guard of Honour, reflecting the traditions and values that underpin the Indian Navy.

With an impressive background, Vice Admiral Kochhar is a highly accomplished and seasoned Flag Officer. His career trajectory showcases a wealth of operational expertise, underscoring his strategic vision. Over the years, he has commanded various frontline warships and spearheaded numerous critical operational and training assignments.

Vice Admiral Kochhar’s previous pivotal leadership positions include serving as the Assistant Controller of Carrier Projects (ACCP), Assistant Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition (ACWP&A), Commandant of the National Defence Academy (NDA), and Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command. Through these roles, he has significantly contributed to enhancing India’s maritime capabilities, driving naval modernization, and improving joint operational readiness.
