Vice Admiral Deepak Kumar Goswami has taken on the esteemed role of Director General Naval Projects (DGNP) in Mumbai, effective February 1, 2025. With a commendable career spanning over 36 years, Vice Admiral Goswami brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having been commissioned into the Indian Navy in November 1988 after completing his education at the Naval College of Engineering, INS Shivaji.
Throughout his distinguished career, Vice Admiral Goswami has held a variety of significant positions that have made substantial contributions to the Indian Navy’s infrastructure, warship design, and modernization projects. His leadership experience is underscored by his tenure as Admiral Superintendent Dockyard (ASD) at both the Naval Ship Repair Yard in Karwar and the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai, where he was responsible for overseeing crucial maintenance and repair operations.
His advanced skills in naval engineering are complemented by extensive expertise in naval project management and warship maintenance, making him well-suited for the complexities of his current role. Before assuming the DGNP position, he served as Assistant Chief of Materiel (D&R) at Naval Headquarters, where he was instrumental in shaping design and refit strategies that supported the modernization of the Indian Navy’s fleet.
In his capacity as DGNP, Vice Admiral Goswami will be at the forefront of overseeing vital infrastructure and modernization initiatives that are essential for enhancing the Indian Navy’s maritime capabilities. His vision and strategic direction are anticipated to lead to improved operational readiness, dockyard expansions, and sustained upkeep of the naval fleet. These initiatives are pivotal in reinforcing India’s ambitions to maintain a formidable blue-water navy, thereby strengthening its presence and capabilities in the vast maritime domain.
