Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, met with the Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan in a significant engagement today. Accompanying him was Mrs. Priya Bhalla, President of the Naval Wives Welfare Association (Eastern Region). This meeting comes at a time when the Indian Navy is focusing intensively on maritime security and collaboration within the Indian Ocean Region and along India’s eastern coastline.

During the meeting, Vice Admiral Bhalla provided a comprehensive briefing to the President regarding the current maritime security landscape in the Indian Ocean. He highlighted the operational readiness and professionalism of the Eastern Naval Command, also referred to as the Sunrise Command, emphasizing the high morale among its personnel.

A key focus of the discussion was the planning for several prominent international maritime events scheduled to take place in Visakhapatnam in February 2026. Vice Admiral Bhalla shared insights about the upcoming International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026, Exercise MILAN 2026, and the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) Conclave of Chiefs. These events, taking place from February 15 to 25, are poised to attract participation from navies across the Indo-Pacific region and beyond, reinforcing India’s role as an essential maritime partner and a net security provider in these waters.

The upcoming initiatives represent India’s steadfast commitment to enhancing maritime security, strengthening regional cooperation, and building capacity through collaborative naval exercises. The IFR, Exercise MILAN, and the IONS Conclave are designed to promote interoperability among participating naval forces, foster trust, and establish shared frameworks for ensuring peace and security in the global maritime arena.
